On the June long weekend with a group of friends went to lake Seliger and its surroundings – the upper lake. The weather was not too good – mostly it was rainy and overcast, but this did not prevent to relax and see the sights. Overall the trip was pleasant, the place is very beautiful perspective on good shots. Only here fishing with no luck – once again I could not taste fresh fish soup:(
Nice lake Seliger is located in the North of the Tver region, almost on the border with Novgorod oblast.
To get to Seliger, there are 2 ways – on the Leningrad highway through Torzhok or to Riga via Rzhev. There we went to Riga, returning on Leningradke, both ways have been very slow because of endless repairs and trucks on Leningradke.
Leaving early in the morning (at 6.30 a.m.) from Moscow, to the place we got closer to 14.00: road in the Tver region leave much to be desired. In the summer, none of travelling in those parts was not armed with a map and Yandex, we decided to choose the most beautiful for the upcoming holiday. Our choice fell on the village of Sirkovo. This village is not on the lake Seliger and lake vselug hotel. The upper lake, which includes the individual property, situated in 40 km from lake Continue reading
35 years ago, the taiga wilderness Cherdyn district, Perm region was rocked by a powerful nuclear explosion. The “mushroom” he saw the inhabitants of nearby villages for tens of kilometers.
It was one of the 715 (!) of nuclear tests for peaceful purposes on the territory of the USSR. In the 70-ies of the great minds of the great powers were often visited by ideas on how to fool mother nature. Scientists of various stripes did not give rest thought about turning the Northern rivers to fill a particular ephemeral pond in the South of the USSR. In 1971 everything was ready to implement the ambitious project, code-named “Taiga”.
The idea on paper looked quite convincing – the Pechora river connects to the bed of the Kama flows into the Volga and then fills catastrophically receding Caspian sea. However, what are the tools to dig a canal between the Pechora and Kama? Here to help the national economy and was called atoms for peace. Nuclear experts proposed to break the watershed of the two rivers nuclear explosions. The Central Committee of the CPSU, almost without hesitation, secret orders approved the project and the work started. By the spring of 71, everything was ready for the first test. The 120-meter shafts, interconnected by a maze of thick cables, lay and waited nukes. Finally Continue reading
Arriving in Cambodia in just 3 days, one of them without any hesitation, we decided to dedicate the trip on… the lake. But this is no ordinary lake, not such at least as we imagine. Tonle SAP can probably be compared with lake Baikal in South-East Asia, is so great importance that place plays in the lives of millions of people!
So, what is this miracle is?
Tonle SAP – the huge lake on the Indochinese Peninsula (and in all of Southeast Asia, probably). It is entirely within the territory of Cambodia and its waters wash the shores of the 5 provinces of the country. In the dry season is a relatively small reservoir with an area of 3000 km2 and depth of about 1 meter. But in the rainy season can sometimes be a wonderful thing: the lake area is increased in 5-6 times, and reaches a depth of 9 meters! Tonle SAP is the source of life for millions of Cambodians who not only feed and earn money through fishing in the lake, but literally living on it! This is one of the few places on Earth where there is an authentic water villages, one of which we went on the sunset of Siem Reap.
To the lake from the town is only 20 kilometers. For normal roads it’s not a distance at all. But for Cambodia, where most of the country roads Continue reading
