Amazing places – the devil’s Garden

In Croatia there is a unique national Park Plitvice lakes (Horw. Plitvička jezera). Thousands of tourists from all over the world flock here to overjoyed to merge with the Paradise nature. And it’s hard to believe that once this place was called “devil’s garden”.

The famous lakes are located halfway between Zagreb, the capital of the state, to the Adriatic coast, along which, and found shelter Croatia.

For the first time about the Plitvice lakes is mentioned in the 16th century. But then people were not up to the beauty of the Balkan peoples were constantly at war with the Ottoman Empire trying to assert their independence. It was at that time this dangerous edge was called “devil’s garden”.

In 1777 these places acquire an official name – “Plitvice lakes”, which was written by the priest of Otočac Dominique Vukasovich.

Gradually the word spreads about the extraordinary beauty of the Plitvice lakes. Already in 1891, from the city of Karlovac was built the road to the lakes, and by 1894 the number of tourists visiting these meta exceeded tens of thousands.

In 1893 was established the society for the protection of the Plitvice lakes, whose task was to preserve the natural splendor of this place and attract tourists from all over the world.
